The latest Vanity Fair (Feb. 2011 issue) features teen singing sensation Justin Bieber. But even if you're not down with 'the Biebs' and can get past the cover, there is a great article inside about J.D. Salinger's World War II experience called 'Holden Caufield's Goddam War.' The article reports on Salinger's combat experience, which was way more extensive and prolonged than I realized. He also met, on three or four occasions, Ernest Hemingway, who was working as a war correspondant. It also tells how the war shaped
The Catcher in the Rye, again way more than I would have guessed. He actually worked on the
Holden Caufield and the gang during combat and stuffed the written materials in his pockets as the unit manuvered. This article must not be missed for those who love The Catcher in the Rye.
Also, set your eyes on the Febuary issue of Audobon Magazine. I'm a freak about Cardinals and the cover is about the coolest Cardinal around. Don't miss it!
