"Imagine being 16 years old, alone and hiding in the
wilderness with no means of communication, forced to trust no one, and
not even sure of where to go or what you will find when you get there.
Sixteen year old Cassie might possibly be the last human being on earth,
having survived the first four "waves" of destruction intended to
eliminate all of civilization on the planet. "The Others" really want
the planet for themselves. Which is why she is told to "trust no one",
not even those who may look like human beings but are really not. She
knows her parents are dead, but she refuses to believe that her little
brother is not alive, so she searches for him among the conflagration,
the emptiness and the loneliness and loss she experiences. I found this
novel to be addictive -- you don't have to love sci-fi to keep the pages
turning. It's a masterpiece of tension: there is heart-pounding action
and gut-wrenching decisions to be made. There are characters that
Cassie and the reader are just not sure of. This is an exciting new
read in teen fiction."

Every now and then we encounter a new children's book that we’re so excited about we want to broadcast it, so we've created a Kids' TC VIB (very impressive book) for a real stand-out among the many delightful and meaningful new books for young readers.
