Tattered Cover is famous for it's well stocked newsstand, and Pete is the man in the know, TC's newsstand buyer. This is the first in what will be a regular posting of the new, the cool, the hot and the most talked about periodicals on our shelves.
Today's segment: Local magazines
It's not often that one magazine features another, but that is the case with the May
issue of 5280. Page 54 tells the story of Heather Janssen, publisher of Get Born magazine, mother of four, and stage-four breast cancer survivor. Get Born takes an honest look at modern day motherhood and parenting. Even if you're not on the mommy track, one can always find something interesting in every issue. 5280 also highlights 'Best Places
to Live Now!' My neighborhood didn't make the list, but perhaps your neighborhood fared better. Congratulations to Sloan Lake and the other winners.
There's never a dull moment with 303 magazine. The May issue covers local music and has a
fine Billie Holiday-inspired photo segment.
Colorado View magazine comes on strong with an all-important Trista & Ryan update. Better still, the spring 2010 issue marks the return of ace book reviewer Patty Thorn, formerly
of the Rocky Mountain News. See page 68 for the big news.
Other local favorites...
Colorado Railroad Journal: The best little magazine about railroading you'll ever find. A bargain at $2.50.
Modern in Denver: Is your taste in design modern? If so, you can't beat Modern in Denver.
Colorado Central: They call this title 'The Monthly Magazine for Natives as well as Non-Natives.' Find out whatever happened to the 'Lazy Aliens Blues Band.'
Denver Magazine: The Hot List! Apparently my neighborhood didn't make this one either.
Congratulations, Highland. You're hot.
Pete
