LouAnne Johnson is a former U.S. Navy journalist, Marine Corps officer, high school teacher, and best selling author. At present she is associate professor of teacher education at Santa Fe Community College.
The author of several books, Johnson is actually best known for being the inspiration, along with her high school students, for the movie Dangerous Minds, which was based on her book My Posse Don't Do Homework (now renamed Dangerous Minds as well).
Johnson says she only had one rule in her classroom: "Respect yourself and the others in this room". She makes the point that "If you truly respect and accept other people as they are, and your motivation is to encourage them to develop their talents and skills to pursue whatever goals THEY have set (or encourage them to set goals if they have none), they they will be interested in what you have to say."
