TC Tidbits: Gay LIterature and Human Rights

"Although not a new practice, increasingly seen in today's literature and fiction are gay themes, or at least the incorporation of gay characters. Although restricted to the reading population, these characters are staging a silent coup d'etat on the minds of mainstream society. Author's, both gay and straight, are touching on topics and themes of human rights in a direct way never seen in mainstream literature. This opening of gay discourse is largely influenced by the sexual revolutions - homosexuality is written in way which presents it as a very real, emotion filled adoration. 'Gay love,' has become as shocking as 'straight love' in literature, which in reality is not that shocking."
